    99th ANNUAL DILLENBECK REUNION, 2009

This year the Dillenbeck Reunion Planning Board has decided to visit the Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site in Fort Hunter, the Maybee Farm Historic Site in Rotterdam Junction, and the old Johnson Fort near Amsterdam, New York.  Come see living history and walk in the footsteps and experience the life of your ancestors.  Directions to all events are located on this page.  Secretary for the Dillenbeck Reunion: Sigrid Rantanen, 2160 12th St., Unit E, Troy, NY 12180. 

 

Do you have a recipe for the Dillenbeck Cookbook?

In addition, we ask that you send in with your registration form, or bring with you to the Reunion, your family recipes.  We would like to include them in our upcoming to-be-published Dillenbeck family cookbook.  Your name will be acknowledged in the book with your recipes.

 

Please print or download the Family Group information sheet.  We encourage you to  send in family information for inclusion in the Genealogy Book to the address listed there.

 

 

MAYBEE FARM- The oldest house in the Mohawk Valley was originally settled by Daniel Janse VanAntwerpen around 1670 and established as a fur trading post to meet Native American traders before they reached Schenectady. The property was sold in 1705 to Jan Maybee. There is a 17th Century Dutch house, Inn, Slave Quarters, 1760 Dutch Barn (not original, English barn, Maybee family cemetery and other outbuildings. The annual Canal Fest is scheduled for the Saturday of our Reunion weekend. There will be entertainment and workshops as part of the Canal Fest.

 

SCHOHARIE CROSSING - Dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the Erie Canal. Within the site's boundaries are many structures dating from the three eras of the canal's development, including a 2-mile long segment of the original "Clinton's Ditch" Erie Canal.

 

OLD FORT JOHNSON - Home to Sir William Johnson, in the Mohawk Valley, during the French & Indian War 1749-1762.

 

Events:

SATURDAY, AUGUST 8: Entrance & activity fees will be paid by the Reunion Association for all attendees.  Enjoy one or all of the activities and don't forget your sunblock.

Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site (Visitor Center 10 - 5) - meet at 10:00 AM at the visitor center.

Maybee Farm Historic Site (open 10 - 4) - meet at 12:00 in the parking lot.

Old Fort Johnson (open 1 - 5) - meet at 3:30 PM in the parking lot.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 9: Family picnic - This year, instead of having our picnic at Wiles Park in Fort Plain, New York, we will be having a buffet lunch at the Canal Pub in Fort Plain, New York, owned and operated by Alan & Lisa Dillenbeck. We will meet at the Pub at 11:00 am. The buffet lunch will abe paid for by the Reunion Association (your Family Association dues at work).

    Directions to the Canal Pub:

    From the West:

  • I-90 Thruway to Exit 29A.
  • Merge onto NY-169 toward Little Falls/Dolgeville
  • Turn left to stay on NY-169.
  • Turn left onto NY-5S and continue to 9 Canal Street

    From the East:

  • I-90 Thruway to Exit 29 toward Rt. 10/Canajoharie/Sharon Springs. 
  • Turn right onto East Main Street/NY-5S..
  • Turn right onto Church Street/NY-10
  • Turn left onto Erie Blvd/NY-5S
  • Continue to follow NY-5S
  • Turn slight left onto Main Street/NY-5S.
  • Turn right onto Canal Street/NY-5S/NY-80 to 9 Canal Street

 

    Directions to the Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site:

  • From Amsterdam, Exit 27 off NYS thruway I-90, take 5S west into Fort Hunter, Main Street
  • Turn left onto Railroad St.
  • Follow around to the right (Schoharie St.) -- Visitor Center is on the right.

    Directions to the Maybee Farm:

    From the West:

  • I-90 Thruway to Exit 26 toward Rotterdam Junciton.
  • Take Exit 1A to Route 5S -- the farm is 2.7 miles on your right

    From the East:

  • I-90 Thruway to Exit 25 (Schenectady)
  • Take *-890 towards Scotia to Exit 1A (Route 5S) -- the farm is 2.7 miles on your right

 

    Directions to Old Fort Johnson

  • NYS thruway (I-90) Exit 27
  • Turn right onto Rt. 30
  • OVer bridge into Amsterdam
  • Turn left at library onto Rt 5 west
  • Old Fort Johnson is located at the corner of Routes 5 and 67 one mile west of Amsterday, NY
